In Flanders Fields.........

Unread post by FieldMarshall Ober » Mon Nov 11, 2013 1:22 pm

As a youth growing up in Canada everyone learned this poem written by a Canadian Army Doctor Lt. Col.John McCrae. According to legend McCrae wrote the poem after attending a friends funeral who died in May 1915 after the Second Battle of Ypres. The poem was published later that year and Lt. Col. McCrae himself was died in France in 1918. The poem and symbol of the remembrance Poppy have since become universal symbols of remembrance in commonwealth nations and around the world. The Poppy symbol is a rather befitting for the task it is assigned, silent and the color of blood it represents the sacrifices nations have endured to keep freedom and democracy safe from harm.

Give the Boys your thoughts today and wear your Poppy with pride.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

~John McCrae (1872-1918)
"Maybe there are 5,000, maybe 10,000 Nazi bastards in their concrete foxholes before the Third Army. Now if Ike stops holding Monty's hand and gives me some supplies, I'll go through the Siegfried Line like %*$# through a goose."
~Gen. G.S. Patton
