new to boards, long-time AAM game owner

Unread post by Encore » Sat Mar 01, 2014 2:15 pm

Hi all,

I had been kicking around the forum (I've consistently been the "and 1 guest" at the site hits counter), and thought it'd be fun to chip in on the excitement. I live in upstate NY, and play AAM, WaS, and AAAFM. Just finished a move, so haven't found new players in the area yet, but working on it :-) Looking forward to fun on the boards!

God bless and all the best,
Encore

Welcome aboard Encore! Glad you could join us. Were a small group of mostly Land gamers who are quite heavy into 3d modeling and painting. Therefore I will warn you that we will be trying to get you into painting minis. :D

I can`t remember any members from upstate NY but be sure to register on the Forumini (link at top of every page) also they have a larger player base and possibly a player(s) in your area.

Whats your gaming background?

Hi Ober, thanks for the warm welcome! I do like to paint, but have not done so with minis yet (have done lots of 1:48 WWII planes, though). I will certainly check out Forumini.

As for gaming background, I started with WaS when it premiered in '07 (saw the ad in a history magazine) and got hooked...now I do all three AAM games. While tooling around a game shop, they had a bag AAM gathering dust and offered it to me for $10, which I took up on curiosity (turned out to be a complete Base Set I)! Since then, I have gathered a decent-ish collection (can field 200+ pts of US, 100+ pts of both UK and CCCP, and 600+ pts of Ger).

I introduced a few folks to AAM and WaS while in college, but had a few changes of locale since then.

Other games I like:
Memoir '44 (and its many expansions)
Star Wars minis
LoTR TCG
Star Wars CCG (yep, from '96)

As a history teacher, I love historic wargames. I love/hate collectible games as so many of us do, but pouring over the possibilities and piecing together winning combos is oh so much fun.

Great to hear you do some painting and modeling. I assume you are interested in trying some 15mm painting, you will likely only need a few fine brushes that you likely have already. We generally give lots of minis away during out anniversary celebration in Late march so stay tuned you might get a chance to win something to paint.

Most of the cards were revised by WotC a few years back so check out our database and print out the cards that are revised, you will find them better since the revisions. http://www.aamcardbase.com/search_AAM.aspx

Welcome Encore to the party!! Thanks to Ober & dano, I have been converted to a fledgling minis painter as well as a gamer, now trying my hand at 3D terrain creation. It is an addiction once started but it is a good addiction & the people here are very helpful & informative on things game related & otherwise.

Again, welcome to the party & drop by anytime, there is usually sumpin good going on here & the Forumini.

HELLO from California! We won't hold that "Upstate NY" thing against you! :) You've met Ober, and Curt, but be very cautious of Loco!!! We're turning 3 years old for the forum, and I just posted some ideas we hold each year for a contest, and/or craft fair. Please jump on in with and join in with whatever we're doing. I'm normally in the Painting and modeling section, but Ober let's me out once in awhile!

If you're interested in some 3d terrain, figures to paint, and/or need a few pieces, I can usually assist with those topics. If you have some painted items or scratch built items, we're always very interested in seeing your projects.

again, nice to meet you!
