So I was on Vacation this past week and I was driving down the road and this was there - a B17 Bomber. You can take a walk through for $10 or $20 for family. Very cool - best thing I did on vacation! You can also get a ride if you have lots of money.
For $850 you can take a ride here:

I now understand why they were called tin cans!!!

It's there until August 20th

Awesome plane, "Sentimental Journey" by the website. She flies over the Veteran's Day Parade here & the airport where she is based is about 10 miles east & the way the overall Phoenix airtraffic layout is....she usually flies over my neighborhood going to & returning from those flyovers.

That was Friday but the next time I'm up that way (next year maybe), I will let you know. I actually spend a week on an island up there where there's not much to do but read. I read Danger's Hour - enjoyed it vey much. The Story of the USS Bunker Hill and the Kamikaze Pilot Who Crippled Her.

I agree Curt - "Awesome Plane"
Amazing that guys went to war in those things. I read a book sometime ago and it covered what it was like to fly combat in these things. Not until I walked through that plane did I get a full appreciation of their experience.

The book isn't on my shelf and I don't recall the name.

just a clarification - I realized that tin cans were actually destroyers ---- but these things were really tin cans. Thin skinned - and round.

Taxiing out on 11-11-2009

I always stop in to their hanger whenever in Mesa around Falcon Field & spend $$$ in the giftshop, all profits go into "Keep 'em Flying". Falcon Field & Scottsdale Airport were WW II Training fields, just an historical sidenote.
